1. Give me the very basics of what this series is about.
The Star of the Guardians is set far in the Earth's future at a time when a corrupt democracy rules over much of the known civilization. Earth has long been destroyed and now the government is spread through space and encompasses the worlds of humans and many other species. The democracy was established when the former government, a weak but proud monarchy, was overthrown by revolutionaries. The monarchs were protected by those known as the guardians, a race of genetically superior, specially bred humans who fought with energy swords known as bloodswords, but were unable to defeat the revolutionaries. As the series begins eighteen years later, the warlord Derek Sagan, a former guardian and now a henchman of the new president, Peter Robes, is finishing his hunt to destroy all of the other guardians still alive. All the while a large threat, the race known as the Corasians, energy creatures who feed of all other life and have terrorized humanity in the past, hangs over the universe.
The Mag Force 7 series picks up the story of a group of mercenaries lead by a half-cyborg man named Xris. The group of mercenaries features strongly in the Star of the Guardians series and these stories tell of their continued adventures.
2. Where can I purchase one of the Star of the Guardians or Mag Force 7 novels?
Although many of the books in the two series are still available in most book stores there are a few volumes that have gone out of print. You can buy any of these volumes at Margaret Weis's online store. The added benefit of purchasing your books from her store is that Margaret Weis will kindly sign your book for you!
3. Where can I purchase cards from the collectable card game?
This is a slightly more difficult endeavour than finding copies of the novels and I would recommend eBay as the best source of finding the cards although there are other sites online that are specifically auctions for CCG. Although Margaret Weis has announced that she has decided once and for all not to write any more in the Star of the Guardians series, she says that she would still consider writing additional Mag Force 7 novels at some point in the future. However, she is currently in the midst of many other fantastic projects that are taking up her time, so for now keep rereading those first seven books and check out some of the other great works that she has written with either Don Perrin or Tracy Hickman.
